Interesting facts about Uganda:

• Home to half the world’s endangered mountain gorillas.

• The equator runs through the country.

• Contains the source of the Nile River.

• Lake Victoria is the 2nd largest fresh water lake in the world (first is Lake Superior).

• Over 50 languages are spoken.

• Coffee is major crop.

• The sun rises at 7 am and sets at 7 pm every day.

• The temperatures range from about 57-86 degrees Fahrenheit all year. (Most parts of the country do not get that cold, but it does in the nighttime where we live.)

Of course we have some challenges with life in Uganda that we may not have if we lived in the USA. Frequent power outages, limited exposure to athletic opportunities for our children, lack of conveniences like the frozen food aisle and drive-throughs.

But raising a family in a small town of East Africa has its advantages as well. A small family-like community of expats and multicultural families like our own, cheap avocados, a slow pace lifestyle and schedule, twelve-hour days year-long, and so much more.
